Enter your building's square footage and clear height for an estimated pallet position count. This is a planning estimate, not an engineering drawing, every building's column spacing, aisle layout, and racking choice changes the real number. Confirm any number you rely on with a racking engineer or your general contractor.

How this estimate works

This is a planning-level estimate, not an engineering layout. It assumes:

  • About 65% of the building's square footage is usable for racking after aisles, columns, docks, and office space (the "rackable fraction").
  • Each rack level needs roughly 5.5 feet of clear height, including the beam and flue space above each pallet.
  • Each pallet position (selective rack) takes about 12.5 square feet of floor area.
  • Drive-in and push-back rack trade some accessibility for deeper lanes, so this estimate applies a density multiplier to selective rack's footprint (drive-in: 1.6x, push-back: 1.3x) rather than modeling lane depth directly.

Real capacity depends on your actual column spacing, aisle widths, dock layout, fire code and sprinkler design, and the mix of pallet sizes you store. Confirm any number you rely on with a racking engineer or your general contractor before you budget against it.
